I am very thankful that I was apart of a program that was so involved with its community. And not just the local community but the global community. My favorite community service was the volunteering we did in Costa Rica and New Orleans and my work with The Boys and Girls Club.

I really enjoyed volunteering in Costa Rica and New Orleans because it felt really nice that we were branching out of Austin, even out of Texas. Being able to help people who had gone through so much hardship was very rewarding. When we were repainting that home in New Orleans that had been affected by the hurricane it didn't really feel like we were doing much. It almost felt as if we could be doing more. But then at the end of the day when we were all sitting down and the owner of the house came out to thank us for all of our hard work she seemed so grateful, thats what made it worth it. To see the joy on her face that even though we had done something simple, like painting, it still meant so much to her. And the same goes for the nursing home we helped repaint in Costa Rica.

For most of my volunteer hours I volunteered at The Boys and Girls Club. Which is still something I do and is the most incredible thing I have ever done. I have met so many exceptional kids at The Boys and Girls Club. I have almost fulfilled my required hours but I still plan on going to The Boys and Girls Club. After the first couple of times I volunteered there I realized I wasn't going for the hours, the hours had completely lost importance to me, but I was going to spend time with the kids. I also have organized my Capstone project around The Boys and Girls Club. I have managed to put together my love of art and my love for The Boys and Girls Club into one project. I am raising art supplies for The Boys and Girls Clubs of Austin and I have worked with The Texas General Land Office, Austin High and The Boys and Girls Club on making sure we raise some much needed art supplies for them.

In all I greatly value the community service I have done with AGS. It has opened my eyes to the community around me and has made me more aware of what I can be doing to help my community.
